To reduce this discussion to a simple black-and-white discussion fails to take into consideration distinct and relevant variations. First off, there is a great deal of diversity between the services and establishments of the assorted hourly rehearsal studios.

As you can see, there is a lot of grey matter in this area of studios, with options ranging from doing-it-all yourself no-help-needed-thank-you-very-much, to being able to walk in and plug and play, and everything in between.

So the question now becomes, what is most important to you concerning your rehearsal space?  Is service important, or just an imposition?  Is privacy primo, or is it isolation?  Will everyone’s work/life schedules still get in the way of rehearsal even if you have a lockout? Or, will your band still practice the exact same amount of time per week.

Will rehearsals in a lockout degenerate into drunken-stoned debacles because you don’t have to worry about “rules,” and “schedules”?, Remember there are no refunds at a lockout.  Do you care how clean the floors and bathrooms are, or if your amps work, if your drums are tuned, if your microphones are dialed in by a pro…
At any rate,

The following chart gives side-by-side comparisons of lockouts, shared lockouts, average hourly studios, and Hothouse Studios in categories of rehearsal pertinence.  I leave it to your judgment.
